I actually made a set of tags. They certainly have only one layer of card stock but there are many 'layers' of ink - I think the technical term is 'collage stamping'.

SUO 89 - One-Layer Challenge
These litttle beauties were made using a brand new product (only just released TODAY in Australia) called the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch. You just cut your card stock 2" wide and it slides through the punch and cuts the scallop bit at the top. This allows you to cut the tag to the length you need - brilliant!
My one-layer tags were made using a variety of stamp sets (please refer to the 'Labels' below) and stamped with Metallic Gold, Crumb Cake, White StazOn, Basic Black, Always Artichoke, Soft Sky and Marina Mist inks onto Soft Sky Core'dinations Card Stock.
Some extra 'dots' were added with a Stampin' Chalk Marker, Crystal Effects squirted onto the 'bubbles' and all the stamps from the 'By the Seashore', were painted with a mixture of Dazzling Diamonds and Crystal Effects. Some tiny Basic Pearls and Linen Thread were the only embellishments used. Lastly, I roughed up the edges of the tags and sponged them with Crumb Cake Ink.
Here's a close up of each one -

Wow! Those are gorgeous one layer tags! I seem to struggle in only one layer -- but this is great inspiration!
