My Kinder/Prep class did some marbling using shaving foam and re-inkers.  This was the first step in a long process to  make a very special card for their mums for Mother's Day. Step 1:  Get an adult to squirt a heap of shaving foam onto a plastic plate. Step 2:  Add a few drops of different coloured re-inkers.      Step 3:  Swirl the inks together but be careful not to over mix the colours. Step 4:  Press your paper into the swirled, inky mixture and lift off. Step 5:  Leave for a couple of minutes to allow the ink pattern to soak in and then with swirly motions, wipe off the excess shaving cream.     Step 6:  Wait for your marbled paper to dry before cutting out the dress shapes with the dies. Step 7:  Cut out the card bases using a Big Shot Machine to make your pop-up card.       Step 8:  Attach your 'marbled dresses...

Hi!  Welcome back to the pre-MDS 'me'.  It's been over 2 months since I've entered a challenge and  also made a card with real ink and stamps!  I'm on holidays and had a whole afternoon today to get 'inky'. Yay! The girls at Just Add Ink inspired me to call into the supermarket on my way home from work on Friday, to purchase a can of shaving cream/foam.  I've really wanted to try out the marbling technique using re-inkers and the fore mentioned 'product' for absolutely ages.  The JAI Challenge Blog have a great challenge to, 'Just Add a Technique You've Never Tried Before!'   So I did. The majority of my cards involve using the Big Shot so I've 'double dipped' and entered my cards in the SUO Challenge to use 'Anything Sizzix'. The idea for this project came from a card created by Lucy Abrams which you can see HERE . Isn't it stunning? It uses the negative part of the die cut with patterned paper behind it (I have heard some refer to this technique as 'reverse appliqué' ). The shapes on a few examples that I have seen go off the edge for added effect. I decided to use some new patterned paper and the Sizzix Bird Set #2 for my 'tweet' little card. As the title suggests, the inspiration for this technique came through Pinterest . I love that site because it actually cuts down your blog surfing time. Last weekend I was playing around with some colours for a challenge and decided to try out an acetate butterfly using Crystal Effects combined with re-inkers. I surfed the net and watched a few You Tube Videos using this technique. There's a few variations out there and I loved having a go, however, I have since discovered that white craft ink is the key to the beautiful marbling effect but that will have to wait until another day. Suggested Colour Combo - Coral (Melon Mambo), Petal Pink (Pink Pirouette) and Antique Gold (Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint mixed with Soft Suede) This is the first time I have played along at The Play Date Cafe and was drawn in by the beautiful colour palette and the desire to re-visit the Polished Stone Technique combined with the Presto Pattern Speciality DSP. I was limited by my stash of re-inkers so the colours aren't as pretty as the ones in the gorgeous inspiration collage. I needed to do a Butterfly Easel Card as a swap for a friend who I met at Melbourne Convention and I wanted to make this one a bit different to the previous line up. The base of the card is cut from Pink Pirouette card stock , stamped with a sentiment from Fresh Cuts in Melon Mambo and the 'stem' stamp from the L2 Hostess Set, Love and Care , is stamped with a mixture of Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint and Soft Suede re-inker to make the antique gold colour. Shimmery Medallion Not only do I love my Impressions Magazine for SU Demonstrators, I love the ideas that are posted on Stampin' Connection (an on-line community for Aus/NZ SU Demos). The lovely Shannon West has a video about Stamping with Shimmer Paint (not a new idea but her hints and tips are worth picking up on). I pretty much CASED her gorgeous card but used Blushing Bride for the butterflies instead of Baja Breeze and used a sneak peak stamp from Creative Elements as a frame for the sentiment. It's hard to photograph the shimmer but you can see a hint of it. The best thing that I liked about this card is that you can make it in under 10 minutes - gotta love that!! It's Friday and that means another challenge for you to enjoy at Just Add Ink . This week it's all about colouring in with either markers, water colour crayons/pencils, chalks, ink refills, shimmer paint, blender pens, aqua painters etc. I think you get the picture. I coloured the beautiful roses from the Elements of Style Stamp Set using a very fine paintbrush and a mixture of ink refills and shimmer paint. A bit of Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint was combined with a few drops from three separate ink refill colours - Perfect Plum, Rich Razzleberry and Old Olive. It is very difficult to see the beautiful sparkle that the Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint brings to the ink but you can see a hint of shine on the edges of the rolled roses. Here's another card that I made which uses the technique that Vanessa Webb demonstrated at Convention in Melbourne - embossing fabric. I stamped onto the material (100% Cotton - Tea Dye from Spotlight) with Black Staz On and coloured in Ollie and Olivia (Stampendous) using Copics and a Bashful Blue Stampin' Write Marker . I had to experiment with a few different copics and markers as some 'bled' more than others on the material. With the help of some Big Shot Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets , some Naturals Ivory Card Stock and the Top Note Die , I embossed the material using the Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder and sponged around the edges with Soft Suede Ink and a sponge dauber . Other Bits 'n' Bobs - Baja Breeze Card Stock and DSP from the Subtles Pack, Corner Rounder Punch, Baja Breeze Ink for sponging, Victoria Crochet Trim, Antique Brad, To and From Tag stamp and Small Tag Punch. I think I have finally discovered that the Big Shot Multi Purpose Adhesive Sheets will forever be on my 'List of Essentials'. Today I made a coaster using the Scallop Circle Die, Newsprint DSP , Window Sheets (acetate), cork sheets (from Spotlight) and the BSMP Adhesive Sheets (In fact, a lot of sheets were used in the making of this project). This idea comes from page 6 of the latest Impressions Magazine for SU Demonstrators (June Edition). I really love browsing through the magazine when it arrives each month to get lots of inspiration for workshops. I decided to use the Newsprint DSP as a lot of kitchens have the whole black and ivory decor thing happening (mine included).
