The Ombre Effect with Blendabilities for FMS 138

I'm so glad this week is over as it was one of the busiest that I can recall.  Last weekend I was enjoying South Pacific Convention with friends and we were given so many new toys to play with, but there was no time for me to have any crafting fun since returning home as I was busy preparing for the School Registration Board Review Visit.  Thankfully, that was a really positive experience and today I have been chillaxing and trying out a new digital download and my Calypso Coral Blendabilities Markers (Sneak Peek).

FMS 138
I created an ombre effect on the background piece of Whisper White Card Stock by colouring with the Dark, then Medium, then Light Calypso Coral Blendabilities.  The Happy Birthday sentiment is a digital download (a Sneak Peek from the Best Birthday Yet Digital Ensemble) and was e-cut using my Silhouette Cameo.
The latest sketch at Freshly Made Sketches was perfect for what I wanted to do today.

Blendabilities are alcohol based markers so I used the Dark Calypso Coral Marker to colour in the Vintage Faceted Designer Button. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how that turned out!

I hope I have inspired you to do some crafting this weekend and play along at FMS.  Thanks for stopping by.

Something Yummy for SUO 97

SUO Challenges have a delicious theme this fortnight, Something Yummy A few of us on the DT must really like our coffee as we opted to use the super cute Perfect Blend Stamp Set!

SUO 97 - Something Yummy
(A Coffee Bag and Gift Card Holder)

Lately, I've been enjoying making some cards using the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch to form the closure.  This time around I flipped it to create a landscape card and added a pouch insert to hold a coffee bag and a gift voucher inside.

Aren't those little leaves the cutest?  They are from the Warm Weather Woodcuts (Digital Punch - MDS) and have been e-cut and stamped with the Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set. The little flowers and leaves were  sitting on my craft desk left over from the production line of Convention Swaps and I'm so glad I added them to the card at the last minute as they really make it 'pop'.

Here's My Project Recipe:
Stamp Sets:  Perfect Blend, Petite Petals, Gorgeous Grunge
Card Stock:  Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, Naturals White, Whisper White, Natural Composition Specialty (reverse side), Pear Pizzazz
Ink:  Early Espresso, Elegant Eggplant, Pear Pizzazz
Accessories:  Polka Dot Parade DSP (Marina Mist), Dimensionals, Tea Lace Doily, Crumb Cake Taffeta Ribbon, Corner Rounder, Petite Petals, Scalloped Tag Topper, 1 3/8" Circle and 1 1/4" Circle Punches, Sticky Strip, Envelope Punch Board, MDS Warm Weather Woodcuts Digital Download, Silhouette Cameo

I hope you will play along over the next fortnight and share your SUO 'Yummy' projects with us.

It's a Masquerade

Hi.  Today I have my very first card in a box to share with you.  It was made for my son to give to his girlfriend for her 21st birthday.  She had a Masquerade Themed Party!

 Masquerade Card in a Box

The card in a box and mask shapes are all Silhouette cutting files made from the beautiful Modern Medley DSP and SU card stock. I would have loved to have added some stamped party balloons etc to the layers in the box but my son's instructions were "not to make it too tizzy", so I had to comply :)  I know the birthday girl loved her special card.

The following photo shows the card and box set that we gave Toni for her birthday.  It was based on this card that I made almost a month ago.

This time the leaves were e-cut using a digital punch from the very cute Warm Weather Woodcuts Digital Download (MDS) -

Here's a few snap shots of the birthday girl and some of our family all dressed up in Venetian Masks -

Our gorgeous daughter also turns 21 this week but we will have to wait until June to celebrate as she is right in the middle of rehearsals for a play that she is directing, as part of her final year of Performing Arts at Uni.

Thanks for stopping by.  I'll be back tomorrow night to share a project for the next round of SUO Challenges.

FREE Tutorial for Top Note Owl Gift Bag Holder

Hi lovers of punch art and all things cute and 'owly'.  As promised, here's a tutorial for the little Top Note (Pointy Eared) Owl Gift Bag Holder.  Happy Mother's Day!

Card Stock:  Chocolate Chip, Whisper White, Pumpkin Pie, Soft Sky, Basic Black, Neutrals DSP (Crumb Cake)
Ink:  Chocolate Chip, Pumpkin Pie
+ Envelope Punch Board, Stamping Sponges

1.  Prepare punched pieces and die cuts
2.  Optional:  Sponge around front pieces with matching ink.
3.  Make a little gift bag/box with a 6X6 piece of DSP.  I made one with the Envelope Punch Board and followed this tutorial by Monica Gale (UK) -
(I folded down the top flap so the gift bag will fit neatly inside the Top Note section)

Now you're ready to make this little guy -
I hope the pictures are fairly self explanatory.

4.  Score the first Top Note piece as shown below and glue in the two punched birds to form the ears -
Inside Front Piece
5.  On the second piece, cut off at the score line and discard top section -
 6.  Glue the front folded piece to the back piece that you just cut -
 Back View

7.  Assemble the eyes using the circle punches - 1 3/4" x1 Choc Chip cut in half for eye lids, 1 3/4" x 2 in Whisper White, 1 3/8" x 2 in Soft Sky, 1" x 2 in Basic Black.  Attach 2 small Basic Pearls.
8.  Attach the small heart for the nose.

9.  Attach the Full Hearts to the inside of both Top Note body pieces.

10.  Adhere the gift bag to the inside of the front piece of the body as shown below -

11.   Apply sticky strip to the top of the gift bag and adhere the front and back body pieces together -

Inside View

12.  Add the belly and wings -

13.  Glue on the back head piece to the back of the owl body -

14.  Attach velcro dots on the inside of the front head piece and match up to the inside of the front body piece to form a flap -

 Ta Dah!

If you enjoyed the tutorial, I'd love to hear from you.  It is actually a combination of several different ideas rolled into one and I hope to make a slightly modified card like this one very soon.

Marina Butterfly

Hi and welcome to my blog.  Today I have a butterfly easel card to share with you.  It was made using Beautiful Butterfly Shapes' digital punches from Stampin' Up's My Digital Studio and cut out using an electronic cutter (Silhouette Cameo).  Did you know that you can trial MDS for FREE for 30 days!

Once you're familiar with MDS and e-cutters, you're bound to want to know how to make your very own Butterfly Easel Card like the Marina Mist one that I have shared with you today! ... or maybe you don't have a clue about where to start in this 'digital world' because it's all just a bit high tech???  No problem!  I've written a tutorial that will show you, step by step, how you can download digital punches to make fun shaped cards -

SUO Challenges also have a Birds, Bees and Butterflies Theme happening at the moment, so hop on over and join in the fun!
